I was getting Bella ready for our lesson last week, when she decided that she was not as keen as exercising as I wanted her to be. Just after I put the saddle on her back, she did a full-body shake, rejecting my saddle and tossing it to the ground, and then proceeded to walk around and STEP ON IT!!!!!
Now, this might not be such a big deal to non-horse people. BUT! There are several things that made me want to throw her to the glue factory immediately:
1. Saddles cost anywhere between $1000-$5000, and I saved up for it for a year or so and it's only been used for a year and a half.
2. If the saddle gets damaged in the right (or wrong) place, it is instantly garbage and there is no way to fix it.
3. She stepped about 1.5 inches from this horrible sensitive zone.
4. Right now, there is no way that I would be able to afford a new one.
Needless to say, the saddle was fine but I was so frustrated with that horse, because I really believe that she KNEW what was going on and just wanted to tell me to leave her alone. However, our lesson was awesome so I guess I really can't be too mad at her... but close call!
